How to choose your rack?
A rack is a standardised cabinet intended to house electronic, computer or networking equipment, designed to be installed in any facility/premises with a large number of interconnected devices.

A rack allows you to group together all of these devices at a single location, with a view to facilitating access and maintenance.

Racks can thus be found within very different settings: corporate, data processing centres, events venues, schools, administration – each with their own unique installation and layout requirements.

Various types of rack exist, which differ depending on their installation (wall or floor), their dimensions (usable depth and height), and the desired level of personalisation, made possible thanks to the optional accessories on offer, such as shelving, cable feeds, fans, patch panels, electrical sockets, and shutters.

Which type of rack should you use?

Depending on the installation location and the type of equipment to be housed, you can choose between wall-mounted or free-standing racks.
> For wall mounting in a location with restricted access, the articulated and extendible Bati Wall Rack is a three-sided frame for wall-mounting. It is completely adjustable, for ease of access to the equipment. Functional and economical, the Bati Wall Rack takes up very little space.
> For wall mounting, the Wall Rack, also referred to as a case, consists of detachable side panels with clip opening, and a front door panel with a keyed lock, for perfect security. In addition to being an economical solution, it enables easy access to your devices and saves space. Be sure to verify the type of wall prior to any installation - a plasterboard wall is not as strong as a brick wall.
> For free-standing installation, the rack known as a patch cabinet or server bay is supplied with castors and/or stabilisers so that it can be efficiently positioned on the ground, and can be rotated in order to easily access the various components. Its two doors; the tempered glass front door and the perforated rear door for effective air circulation, are fitted with a keyed lock for optimal security. It can house a large quantity of equipment.

Prior to installing your rack, you must consider the following:
  • Dimensions of the rack
  • Security requirements
  • Type of wall in relation to the total weight of the rack, with equipment
  • Door opening direction
A patch bay that is supplied assembled represents a considerable size and weight to be moved within company premises. Oftentimes it is even impossible to get it through the door of a machine room. It is therefore often preferable to go for an electrical box or bay in kit form, which will thus be delivered in 1-3 boxes, enabling simpler handling.

The fairly simple assembly will take you between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on the model.

KIMEX will deliver to your place of installation in kit form, or pre-assembled on request - option subject to quotation: 05 57 95 95 53

What depth and height of rack should you use?

In order to choose your rack, you must know both its depth and height. Is is therefore very important that you know the precise specifications for your project in advance.

>Width: 19’’, standard.

> Depth:
It is actually very important to verify the overall depth of the equipment that will be installed in it. Depending on the type of installation and application (IT), it is very often servers that are being stored. It is very important that you also take into account cable outputs. Consider allowing 4-5 cm in order to connect/disconnect the cables.

> Height:
Depending on the installation location and the type of application, you must calculate the required height in U (a unit equal to 44.45 mm or 1.75 inches) in order to house your equipment and allow some reserve space in case you forget something or should the project develop on a technical level.
